Travel | Hotel B in Lima, Peru

When we stayed in Lima during our honeymoon, we stayed at a small, boutique hotel called Hotel B (short for The Arts Boutique Hotel B). It’s located in the boho Barranco District which I shared more about in my last post. The hotel is a historic manor house that was built in 1914.

After being a house for many years, and then being (surprising) left abandoned, it was just recently restored as a hotel, re-opening in 2014. The best part of the restoration is that they kept as much of the original parts of the house from the floors to the doors to imported Italian marble and exotic woods.

This hotel is certainly all about guest’s experience.  They greet you with a glass of champagne at check-in, give you a guided tour of the home and brief history lesson if you so want. The amenities are all there and included: A complimentary minibar, tea service every afternoon, free Internet, a fantastic breakfast in the library, and some of the most attentive hotel staff I’ve ever met. You also get access to the beautiful rooftop where you can enjoy a cocktail, or a morning coffee overlooking Barranco.

If the hotel itself isn’t enough, the hotel houses an abundance of artwork. Being in Barranco, the hotel is nearby to galleries and artists’ studios,  and has a unique art collection of its own. It has a mix of ultra-modern pieces, local photography, Surrealism pieces, as well as a massive oil painting over the bar.

Speaking of the bar, Hotel B has one of the best hotel bars I’ve ever been in.  A small and cozy setup, the bar boasts more of the amazing artwork as well was a laddered wall where employees climb to grab bottles of wine for guests.  Their cocktail menu features a series of gin drinks (featuring Hendrick’s gin – my favorite!)  Their drinks are essentially a basic gin and tonic, however, they serve them in large open glasses and stuff them full of different aromatics. This way you are smelling the ingredients as you sip mixing the taste and smell into one awesome cocktail!

If gin and tonic isn’t your thing, the well-trained bar staff can whip you up anything you’d like. We let our friendly bartender make up his own creations for us. He made me an apple and basil cocktail with lemon and simple syrup.  For Michael, he mixed Aperol, Havana Club rum – from Cuba and not available in the U.S. – and vermouth.

While you’re there, you might as well have dinner as well. In the kitchen is acclaimed Peruvian chef Oscar Velarde. The food is out of this world, and surprisingly affordable!

In the morning, meander into the library for a beautiful Mediterrian-type breakfast buffet complete with a multitude of juices, baked goods from a local bakery, cheeses, meats, boil quail eggs, olives, and more.

We only spent a night at Hotel B, and then we were off again! Next stop, Sacred Valley!  It’s safe to say we adored our stay at Hotel B and I’d highly recommend it to anyone spending time in Lima.  If you’re passing through Peru, their staff will arrange to pick you up right at the airport, and them get you back when your next domestic flight takes of.
