Oh the DIY gift. Always good in theory but sometimes, not so much in execution. You end up covered in glitter and glue and not a step closer to an actual give-able gift.
I have a list of DIY gifts people ACTUALLY WANT. And, they are all simple and affordable.
1. Coffee Sugar Scrub
Coffee Sugar Scrub Recipe:
1 part raw sugar
1 part olive oil
1/4 part used coffee grounds
Combine all ingredients and store in airtight container.
2.Nail Polish Marbled Mug
Drop about 4 drops of nail polish into a Tupperware of warm water. Using a toothpick, briefly swirl the nail polish, then dip a white ceramic mug into the water and pull out, using the toothpick to pick up any excess (see video below at 1:20 for a demo)
3. Infused Vodka
Add desired flavors into an airtight container with vodka. I used cinnamon sticks and cranberries. Leave it in the vodka for 3 days, then remove the flavoring items. (Other good choices to infuse are: cucumber, lemon (remove the pith), apple, hot pepper.)
4. Homemade Granola
Granola Recipe:
3 cups oats
1 cup of each nuts (I used pecans, almonds and hazelnuts)
1/4 cup brown sugar
1/4 cup olive oil
1/4 cup maple syrup
Combine dry ingredients, mix well. Combine wet ingredients, mix well. Combine wet and dry ingredients together. Spread them amongst two baking trays. Bake at 250 degrees for 1 to 1-1/2 hours, checking and stirring every 20 minutes.
5. Pedi-jars
Combine pedicure/manicure items like nail polish, cotton balls, nail files, polish remover, into a jar and add a bow (because bows make everything better.)
