As a mom of three, finding functional and versatile furniture for our home is a must. Our playroom doubles as a guest bedroom, and I’ve found the perfect solution to make this space comfortable and inviting for our visitors. Here’s how I did it and the products I used to make it happen.
The Perfect Daybed: IKEA HEMNES
The star of the show is undoubtedly the HEMNES daybed from IKEA. This twin-to-king daybed is a game-changer. Not only does it provide a comfortable and durable seating for the playroom (perfect for playing and movie nights) but it also transforms into a spacious king-size bed for guests. The three drawers underneath offer ample storage for toys, games, and extra bedding.
Mattresses: Comfort is Key
When it came to choosing mattresses, I did a lot of research and ended up going with the ASVANG foam mattresses from IKEA. These are specifically recommended for the HEMNES daybed, and I found they offer just the right amount of support. To make it more comfortable I I added a king-size foam topper on top when we have guests. This combination creates a plush, cozy surface that rivals any high-end hotel bed. My mom told me the new bed is “SO COMFORTABLE”.
Sheets: Budget-Friendly and Super Comfy
I can’t rave enough about these insanely comfy and insanely cheap sheets I found. I own several sets because they’re just that good. They’re soft, durable, and perfect for both everyday use and hosting guests. Plus, the price point makes them a no-brainer for families like ours who need multiple sets on hand.
Other notes:
- Pillows: I keep a stash of extra pillows with varying firmness levels so guests can choose what’s most comfortable for them. I got our fun throw pillows from Marshalls.
- Frames: I love these frames for kid art because they have a spot to display artwork but open up at the hinges so you can store multiple pieces of art at once. Which is great if you have kids that create A LOT of artwork.
